“Dad’s Suitcase Triumph”

Old, weathered leather suitcase with metal latches, sitting on a blue table outdoors, with a white mug and green foliage in the background.
Purple and black Triumph motorcycle parked on a road with another blue motorcycle behind it, countryside landscape with a stone wall, tree, and a sign that reads 'Cotswold Way Public Footpath' under a partly cloudy sky.

1970 Triumph T100T Daytona

Restore • Recondition • Recommission

This 1970 Triumph T100T Daytona arrived at Quadrant Motorcycles as a long-forgotten passion project with a remarkable story behind it.

Originally stripped down by the owner and his brother during the late 1970s and early 1980s, the intention had always been to clean, rebuild and return the motorcycle to the road together. Life moved on, and for more than four decades the project remained stored away in suitcases, boxes and spare rooms, moving from house to house as the years passed.

By Winter 2025, many original parts had inevitably been lost, but the heart of the motorcycle remained — the original frame, engine cases and core chassis components were still present, providing the foundation for a full ground-up restoration.

The customer brief was refreshingly simple: not a concours-correct museum piece, but a clean, reliable and beautifully presented motorcycle that could finally be enjoyed on the road once again.

Quadrant Motorcycles carried out a complete restoration, reconditioning and recommissioning programme including:

  • Complete Triumph twin engine rebuild

  • Full chassis restoration and refinishing

  • Fresh Daytona paintwork in correct purple metallic with hand-painted gold and silver-grey pinstripe

  • Fuel tank corrosion and perforation repair prior to repainting

  • Original wheel hubs vapour blasted and restored

  • New stainless steel spokes with English chrome wheel rims

  • New Dunlop tyres fitted throughout

  • Complete new wiring harness installation

  • 12-volt electrical conversion

  • Electronic ignition conversion for improved reliability

  • Rebuilt speedometer and tachometer assemblies

  • Fork rebuild with new seals, oil and refinished lowers

  • Full gasket and seal replacement throughout

  • Missing components sourced and restored

  • QD rear wheel assembly rebuilt with rare sourced components

  • New brake shoes precision-lapped to hubs

  • Frame, subframe and chassis components refinished in gloss black

Due to the significant number of missing and damaged components, extensive sourcing and restoration work was required throughout the build. Alongside the mechanical restoration, Quadrant Motorcycles also supported the motorcycle’s successful re-registration, MOT preparation and return-to-road process.

Today, the Triumph once again sits proudly on the road — no longer forgotten in storage, but restored, reconditioned and recommissioned exactly as intended all those years ago.

Quadrant Motorcycles specialises in classic motorcycle restoration, vintage motorcycle recommissioning and bespoke rebuild projects from our workshop in Donington, East Midlands, UK.
